Great Story

Four Men talking in a Bar one night...........

After several drinks, one of the men had to use the rest room.

Those who remained talked about their kids.

The first guy said, 'My son is my pride and joy. He started working at a successful company at the bottom of the barrel. He studied Economics and Business Administration and soon began to climb the corporate ladder and now he's the president of the company. He became so rich that he gave his best friend a top of the line Mercedes for his birthday.'

The second guy said, 'Darn, that's terrific! My son is also my pride and joy. He started working for a big airline, then went to flight school to become a pilot. Eventually he became a partner in the company, where he owns the majority of its assets He's so rich that he gave his best friend a brand new jet for his birthday.'

The third man said: 'Well, that's terrific! My son studied in the best universities and became an engineer. Then he started his own construction company and is now a multimillionaire. He also gave away something very nice and expensive to his best friend for his birthday: A 30,000 square foot mansion.'

The three friends congratulated each other just as the fourth returned from the restroom and asked: 'What are all the congratulations for?'

One of the three said: 'We were talking about the pride we feel for the successes of our sons. .What about your son?'

The fourth man replied: 'My son is gay and makes a living dancing as a stripper at a nightclub.'

The three friends said: 'What a shame.. what a disappointment.'

The fourth man replied: 'No, I'm not ashamed. He's my son and I love him. And he hasn't done too bad either. His birthday was two weeks ago, and he received a beautiful 30,000 square foot mansion, a brand new jet and a top of the line Mercedes from his three boyfriends.

Gay Pride Weekend in San Jose
MerryChristmas
[info]mark_plfd
This weekend is the San Jose gay pride festival. I might go watch the parade on Sunday... http://www.sanjosepride.com

My weekend is filling up... On Saturday at 11am, I am going the Christmas Hill park in Gilroy for our Unions annual picnic. Last year I won a DVD Player. I hope to win another prize this year.

Saturday at 5pm, I was invited to my ex-boyfriends wifes birthday party. I think I will go, she is a nice young lady.

I guess on Sunday I will hang out downtown San Jose. I think my new room-mate will go with me. It will be nice to have someone to hang out with on Sunday.

Two weeks from today, I fly to Thailand. I am excited !

California Supreme Court Overturns Gay Marriage Ban

I like what Mayor Newsom said "It's about human dignity. It's about civil rights. It's about time."

SAN FRANCISCO — Gay and lesbian couples in San Francisco rejoiced Thursday over a California Supreme Court decision affirming their right to marry even as political leaders on both sides of the issue girded for an extended fight in the courts and at the ballot box.

“It’s just amazing to feel like I am a full citizen — I am not a second-class citizen,” said Christmas Laubrile, a nurse, who was with her partner, Alice Heimsoth. “I don’t have to sit in the back of the bus, and I don’t have to take second best.”

This should be interesting. I have never had a 'room-mate' I've always managed to find a boyfriend.... but alas...... i am getting older, not a good catch anymore i guess.....

Well, I am excited, and can't wait to get to know him.

Bangkok Day 2
MerryChristmas
[info]mark_plfd
Monday:

Woke up early, and Pooh came to be my guide for the day. We walked across a sky bridge, and I shot of photo and short video clip of the Bangkok traffic. Not as many motorcycles as I thought might be in the streets, but sill, several people are using the motorcycle, to avoid the bad traffic conditions.

We hailed a taxi, and planned to go to the Bus station, then take a bus to "Ancient City" about 1 hour outside of Bangkok, but as we rode in the Taxi, the driver offered to drive us all the say, so I ask how much, he said about 200 baht ($6.42 USD) So, I said sure, and gave him 300 Baht for the ride. It was nice to have a private car, with air conditioning, I think better then riding the bus.

Ancient City is a tourist attraction, that has many recreated buildings, and objects that are found throughout Thailand. It was nice to see so many things in a huge park setting. We rented a golf cart to get around in. It was very warm on Monday, but overall I really enjoyed it. I took many photos there. I took my favorite photo of me, I am sitting on the steps the lead up to a mountain top. I got some great photos of Pooh. I find him simply adorable.

Afterwards we took a taxi back to the Hotel in Bangkok, and went swimming. The pool area at the hotel was very nice, sorry, no photos from that part of the trip. Well, I am still way to heavy for swim suit photos.

After taking a nap, we went to Silom Soi 4, (corrected), a street with many gay pubs. We had dinner on that street almost every night during my visit. I was just so relaxing, the weather in the evening was great, and you could sit outside and do some serious people watching. So many interesting people walking around.

A lady (hill person) was selling trinkets, and I bought a wrist band from her, but that was a mistake, she wouldn't leave me alone, and wanted me to buy more....

The waiter at "The Balcony" was named "Oui" and such a nice guy, very talkative, and gave great service, always making sure we had anything we needed. Dinner and drinks cost less then $10.

Book Review - Michael Tolliver Lives
MerryChristmas
[info]mark_plfd

When I got to the airport in San Jose, I went to the bookstore to look for a book to read during the flight. I am not much of a reader, as not many books seem to hold my interest. Well, I found this book, and saw that it was about a gay couple, where 1 partner was 21 years older than the other. And having just had this type of relationship, I figured maybe I would enjoy this.

The book is "Michael Tolliver Lives" by Armistead Maupin. Maupin is the author of "Tales of the City, Babycakes, Significant Others, Sure of You, Maybe the Moon, and The Night Listener"

Maupin lives in San Francisco with his husband, Christopher Turner.

http://www.armisteadmaupin.com

I totally enjoyed the book, and read about 60% of it on the flight (even with all the talking with the nice gal sitting next to me) I finished the book after I got to my Mom's home.

My favorite part of the book is when Carlotta says "There is no fifth destination" Trust me, you need to read the book, there is a lot to this....

The 2 guys are 33 and 55, in love, and got Married while Mayor Newsom was allowing Gay Marriages a few years back. They are a great couple, with a great "family" in San Francisco, and a Biological Family in Florida that end up taking second place to their real "family"

I found myself very interest as many gay bars, and other non-commonly known landmarks of San Francisco are mentioned, and I actually could visualize where they were. I also found myself laughing and crying only 1 page apart.

This book is masterfully written, is a great touching story, and has many meanings to me. I am going to re-read it, as I found it that good.

High School

[info]mark_plfd
A friend from High School just emailed me, and he will be visiting San Francisco Sept 26 - Oct 1. He wants to get together, and I think that will be great. I have not seen him since High School, but just recently got back in touch with him after a class reunion. (I didn't go to the reunion, but several emails were shared, so we managed to hook up) I found it interesting that he too has an Asian Boyfriend. (I wasn't shocked to find out he was gay, since after talking to him, seems like I knew he was, before he knew he was.) Life is interesting, and I can't wait to hang out with him.

San Francisco Pride Parade
MerryChristmas
[info]mark_plfd
Yesterday was the 37th annual pride parade. In the scope of things, it's still a very young parade. I remember the first parade I atteded, it was 1999. I flew out from Indiana with my BF. We had a very nice vacation, visiting the sites, going to wine country, and the parade. I was so amazed, and almost in shock at what was allowed in a public parade. I never thought nudity would be allowed. Now, it's no big deal to see the naked people. Of course, like usually, the naked ones, are NOT the ones you wish were naked.

Watching the parade yesterday, like my first time, still can get me emotional. I am so happy that the world is beginning to accept people for who they are.

I didn't see any old friends this year, so that was kind of sad. I just don't get out as much as I use to.

Here are a 2 interesting photos..... We got to see the Mayor !

And of course there were cute boys in the parade too !

I saw this on OPRAH.

I took the gay/straight test to see how I feel about gays/straights. I think it was accurate.

Oh, and Today is Gay Pride day in San Jose, I doubt I will go to the parade. But, in 2 weeks, is San Francisco Pride, and I plan on attending that parade. I makes me think back, and remember fondly my first visit to San Francisco after coming to terms that I am gay. The parade was such an awakening for me. That was June of 1999. I have missed a couple of parades since then, but feel it's something I need to do for me.

Tuesday is National Coming Out Day
MerryChristmas
[info]mark_plfd
I found this on 365gay.com

Tuesday marks National Coming Out Day, but events are planned throughout the week in many communities nationwide, with the theme this year: 'Talk About It'.

"Talk About It,” encourages gays to talk openly and honestly about their lives and the inequalities gay , lesbian, bisexual and transgender Americans face under law .

“Every single time we talk about it , we are one step closer to equality,” Human Rights Campaign President Joe Solmonese told 365Gay.com

“Each word helps build bridges that change hearts and minds — and eventually our laws.”

National Coming Out Day is celebrated every Oct. 11 to mark the anniversary of the 1987 March on Washington for Gay and Lesbian Equality.

Gay Marriage so close.... but will he veto it?
MerryChristmas
[info]mark_plfd
SACRAMENTO: The California legislature became the first legislative body in the country to approve same-sex marriages, as gay-rights advocates overcame two earlier defeats in the Assembly.

The 41-35 vote sends the Bill to governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, who had no comment on the Bill when it cleared the state Senate last week. His office did not immediately respond late on Tuesday to a call seeking comment.

The Bill's supporters compared the legislation to earlier civil rights campaigns, including efforts to eradicate slavery and give women the right to vote.

"Do what we know is in our hearts,"said the Bill's sponsor, San Francisco Democrat Mark Leno. "Make sure all California families will have the same protection under the law.

"Leno's Bill had failed in the Assembly by four votes in June, but he was confident he could get it through on a second try after the Senate approved a same-sex marriage Bill last week.

Jocelyn Enriquez

[info]mark_plfd
Jocelyn Enriquez was live at our favorite Bar in San Francisco last night. We went to N-Touch and the cover charge was only $7. Not bad for a live diva! She sings songs like "If You Could Read My Mind", "A Little Bit of Ecstasy", "Do You Miss Me?" and "No Way, No How"

It was a nice to see a live performance, and we were only 10 feet from her..... Cool !
